Turkey Begins Falling Away From the WestEmail this pageBack

Sunday, 13 December 2009 Printer Friendly Version

For a number of years Turkey’s government has entertained the prospect of joining the European Union and has made some progress in meeting the requirements of EU laws and regulations. It has made an effort to recognise basic human rights, contributes to NATO and some peacekeeping forces. It has developed warmer relationships with Israel and, for a Muslim nation, has shown moderation.
Lately, however, that same AKP government, led by President Erdogan, refused to accept Israel’s continuing participation in military exercises, resulting in several other western nations withdrawing. It has criticised pro-western Muslim nations - Egypt, Tunisia and Jordan - while praising anti-western countries - Qatar and Sudan. Says Soner Cagaptay of the Washington Institute, “This two-pronged strategy is especially apparent in the Palestinian territories: at the same time that the AKP government has called on Western countries to recognize Hamas as the legitimate government of the Palestinian people, AKP officials have labelled PA leader Mahmoud Abbas the head of an illegitimate government." Hamas is committed to the destruction of Israel. Abbas is the only Palestinian leader Israel can talk to. Is Turkey’s policy changing?
It has to. Turkey’s final destiny will be as part of the Gogian Muslim group of Ezekiel 38/39 that seeks to invade Israel and are destroyed on Israel’s mountains. Several participants of this Russian-led gang, such as Gomer and Togarmah, have northeast Turkish locations. The West leaning period that Turkey recently adopted, seemed to be designed to smooth its EU ambitions, but Turkey’s Muslim roots are proving too strong.
Cagaptay goes on to point at the Turkish branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, the same organization that foments trouble in Egypt and the parent of Hamas. The Brotherhood now feels strong enough in Turkey to incite enmity with Israel, and then sink EU aspirations and ties with USA.
Bible prophecy tells us where Turkey is finally headed, part of the collective judgments of God on belligerent Muslims. Some Muslim people accept the coming Kingdom ruled by Jesus Christ but north Turkey is not among them.
